Accounting Technician

Examines all disbursement documents, purchase orders, travel orders, training authorization, requisitions and other miscellaneous documents to ensure the transactions are approved and obligated. Audits documents to verify proper receiving reports are completed for receipt of goods services, vendor invoices are consistent with the type and amount of disbursement(s) authorized in accordance to the purchase order with adherence with the Prompt Payment Act. Maintains and understands the Administrative Controls of Funds procedure and Federal Appropriations Law for Accountability of disbursements. Researches transactions to ensure funds are obligated by querying data using appropriate modules in the accounting and reporting system. Consults with the department supervisor in the implementation, improvements and/or modifications of accounting procedures, methods, and internal controls related to accounts payable and reconciliation activities. To qualify for this position, your resume must state sufficient experience and/or education, to perform the duties of the specific position for which you are applying. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer and part time experience. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week. For positions requiring positive education requirements, or if you are using education to meet all or part of the qualification requirements, you MUST submit a copy of your transcripts or an itemized list of college courses which includes equivalent information from the transcript (course title, semester/quarter hours, and grade/degree earned) in your resume. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS, GS-0525-07: Your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-06 grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks: Examples including: Receiving, reviewing, and paying commercial vendor invoices in compliance with the Prompt Payment Act requirements; using various accounting treatments and inter-related work systems to ensure validity and accuracy of obligations; reviewing, analyzing, classifying and reconciling transactions to address outstanding payment and obligation issues; auditing and processing travel vouchers/ invoices, resolving discrepancies, prepare financial reports and preparing daily collections; Comprehensive knowledge and understanding of general accounting regulations, practices, procedures and governing budgetary policies to perform a full range of accounts payable and budgetary support functions; Knowledge of Prompt Payment Act, Administrative Control of Funds, Federal Appropriations Law, Contracting Officer's Technical Representative Responsibilities, and Federal Travel Regulations (FTR) to interpret and apply a variety of accounting situations for compliance and to be able to recommend procedural changes as warranted. OR Completion of (1) year (18 semester hours) of graduate education directly related to work of the position. OR Possess a combination of education and experience that when combined fully meet the minimum qualifications for this position. The total percentage equals at least 100 percent to qualify for this GS-07 grade level. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS, GS-0525-08: Your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-07 grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or task: Examples including: Researching documents to resolve discrepancies, determine appropriateness of claims, traces and corrects noted errors, audit processing requisitions, purchase orders and other miscellaneous documents to ensure transactions are approved and obligated; Receiving, analyzing, and reconciling complex commercial and travel payments; using an automated federal financial system to record and reconcile payments; and applying knowledge of various accounting treatments and federal travel regulations to ensure validity and accuracy of transactions; Participates in preparations of operating budget for all budge activity programs. Don't Be Fooled

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
